Trull Village Memorial Hall

Trull Village Memorial Hall

Trull Old Village Hall, an old first world war army hut, was bought from Salisbury Plain and erected in the village in 1921 and served the community very well, it was the centre of social activities for many years. Eventually villagers felt that a new hall was needed and thus began many years of fund-raising to provide what we all now know as Trull Memorial Hall.

Trull Memorial Hall was opened in the spring of 1965. Its management committee is made up of representatives of the village organisations who are regular users of the hall, and six elected members. The Memorial Hall was erected in memory of those from the village who gave their lives in the two World Wars. Following much debate in the 1980's over the possibility of enlarging the hall an extension was built, known as the "Pearce Suite" in 1991. This large room is used for Committee Meetings for the hall and Parish Council and other small meetings where the main hall would be too large.

Following an unsuccessful application to the Millennium Commission for funds to build a larger hall on the Old Village Hall site, mainly due to the fact that Trull was blessed with several meeting places, the other being the Parish Room, it was decided to merge the two village halls under one charity and the scheme was approved by the Charity Commissioners in September 2000. In February 2005 it was decided to draft a Feasibility Study to replace the Memorial Hall and Old Village Hall on the site of the Memorial Hall. Architects were appointed and a Redevelopment Sub-Committee was formed.

It is planned to hold two public consultations during the Summer / Autumn of 2006.

The main hall is in constant use with many Art Groups, Keep Fit, Pilates, Yoga, Short Mat Bowls and various W.I. meetings.
